15 of our favourite Squarespace font pairings for creative babes in 2023
Just like colours, fonts have distinct personalities and preconceptions tied to them that can make them an amazing way to demonstrate your brand’s vibe. Using the right style of fonts can really tie together a website’s look and feel, so it’s important to understand what works for your brand. When it comes to pairing fonts on your Squarespace site, the key rule is contrast. If you choose to use a mixture of different fonts, these fonts need to be different enough from one another to create a good level of contrast. For example, pairing a classic serif font with a rounded sans-serif provides enough distinction. If using the same typeface for both headings and body copy, play around with font weights to provide the necessary contrast.
Using two fonts that look too similar can just look wrong - like half of the text on your website hasn’t quite loaded properly. This can cause your site to look unpolished and cobbled together - hardly a recipe for brand trust!

Mixed Font Styles
Orpheus Pro & Brandon Grotesque
Thin and elegant Orpheus Pro adds a sophisticated layer to cute and fun sans-serif font Brandon Grotesque. Both fonts have a good range of weights and styles which means you have endless opportunities for variety within your site without too many different font styles. This pair is a great choice for feminine, luxurious brands in the online space.
Beastly and Fieldwork Geo
Chunky, cool and deliciously modern, Beastly is perfect for use in large sizes. Totally illegible in small sizes, save this display font for large headings and pair with a simple, slim sans-serif like Fieldwork Geo for ultimate legibility and cool factor. This font duo works brilliantly for genre-defining beauty brands and any businesses that like to pack a punch.
Swear Display Cilati and Europa
Swear Display is an incredibly versatile font, and includes this cute cilati (geddit, backwards italic?) version. Used for large headings, this font adds some feminine chic-factor to a website. Paired with a simple, legible and modern sans-serif like Europa is a classic and delightful combo. Feeling brave? Mix Swear Display Regular and Cilati styles for a curated and well-designed look that’s ideal for arty, creative brands.
IvyMode and Roc Grotesque
Another serif and sans-serif combo, IvyMode is a beautiful font with plenty of options. It works so well as a mixture of all caps and italics, and looks fab at every weight. Pair with a modern, uber-cool sans-serif like Roc Grotesque for ideal contrast and a contemporary, high-fashion style. This pairing is ideal for any feminine brands who want a luxurious and high-value feel.
Nimbus Sans Extended and Lora
Flipping mixed font styles on their heads is this attention-grabbing typeface pair. An all-caps, super chunky sans-serif brings attention and urgency to headings while classic font Lora brings it all back down to earth. This is a great pairing to instil trust into clear and concise messaging - perfect for those in more corporate fields.
Nueva Extended and Acumin
Wide, unique and with a broad range of weights and styles, Nueva Extended is a great choice for varied headings. It looks great in all caps (rare for a serif) and lower case so really does have heaps of versatility. Keep it simple in your body copy with a gorgeous legible sans-serif like Acumin. We’d totally recommend this pairing for crafty brands and businesses that create artisan goods.
Serif Only Styles
Goldenbook Light and Goldenbook Bold
A great example of how to use the same font across your whole website, Goldenbook offers so much versatility through weights and all-caps styles. Elegant looking in large sizes and perfectly legible when smaller, it’s a fantastic all-rounder that would lend itself to modern brands in the marketing, copywriting and virtual assistant spaces.
HWT Roman Extended and Le Monde Journal
Variety of size, width and weight make these two fonts a perfect complimentary pairing. Using two serif fonts is a really sophisticated and trustworthy look, so this pairing is perfect for service-based businesses that want to add some modern pizazz to their trusted brand.
Ambroise and Josefin Slab
Ambroise has some gorgeous thick lines and a tall x-height which pairs it perfectly with skinny slab Josefin. We love using Ambroise in all-caps, but it looks fantastic in a range of weights and styles. Remember to use lighter weights of Josefin for plenty of variety. We love this option for bold brands offering crafted physical products or luxury services.
Sans Serif Only Styles
Gopher Bold and Gopher Regular
Calling all quirky cool online business owners - this super trendy, funky font is a winner however you style it. Wide enough to pack a punch at bold heading sizes, but still perfectly legible as body copy, what’s not to love about Gopher? Remember to add contrast through weights and sizes, but you can’t clash using the same typeface which is always a bonus.
Poppins and Futura
Both these fonts have a great variety of weights so are incredibly versatile and easy to use across a range of marketing applications. Futura is narrower and legible at every size which is what makes it an absolute classic. The geometric shapes of Poppins are modern, simple and gorgeous. This font pairing can be switched (using Futura as headings) easily and would work for brands in most markets thanks to it’s simplicity and versatility.
Aktiv Extended and Aktiv Grotesque
Aktiv is another wonderful font with heaps of styles and combination opportunities. Pairing an extended (extra wide) version with the standard sans-serif grotesque is a fantastic way to add diversity to your text without running the risk of any clashing! This pairing would work amazingly for any brand feeling a super moden and minimalist vibe.
Wild Cards & Crazier Pairings
Cheee and Roc Grotesque Wide
It’s weird, wacky, and not hugely legible at any size other than enormous, but isn’t Cheee just a delight? Used sparingly this font adds a super fun and unique look to websites - perfect for funky product businesses or service providers looking to add a bit of humour and silliness. Roc Grotesque Wide is an ideal partner for this mad font, modern and cool while still perfectly legible at smaller sizes (you’re reading it now!)
Acier BAT Geo and Abril Regular
Looking for something unusual and beautiful, but still legible? Acier BAT Geo could be the perfect font for you. Again, only suitable at larger sizes Acier BAT Geo is a perfect choice for quirky venues, unique sellers and service providers who value what makes them different. Paired with a simple serif typeface like Abril Regular gives plenty of variety and legibility.
Adhesive Nr. Seven and Old Standard TT
Goth girls, metal lovers and witches are destined to love this designer font pairing straight out of Dracula. If your brand has a gothic edge (or you just love the occult) this could be a unique and deliciously horrifying choice for you. Go easy on those headers though, you know what they say about too much of a good thing!
